The proposed “Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion” doesn’t limit – it prohibits… anyrestriction on abortions and would nullify all Florida laws that regulate abortion.
This extreme abortion amendment is deceptively written to disguise the fact that it would allow abortion right up to the moment of birth for any age without parental consent in Florida. And the restrictions it seems to allow? They can all be bypassed by any “healthcare provider” – which is not just doctors, but a host of other professions and even employees of abortion clinics. And the amendment doesn’t define “viability” or “patient’s health” – instead leaving it up to these so-called “healthcare providers” to determine if, when and for what reason abortions can be performed.
What appear to be safeguards in this amendment are actually loopholes… giant, intentional loopholes that would allow abortion for virtually any reason at any time during pregnancy. That’s why Florida’s Attorney General told the Florida Supreme Court “voters deserve to be made aware of the possibility that the health exception could be made essentially to swallow the rule.”
We must warn Florida voters that despite its false assurances – this amendment would legalize abortion for any reason, until the moment of birth, and without parental consent for minors.
Who is funding this amendment?
This proposed amendment is bankrolled by abortion interests whose views are so extreme that they once lobbied against a Florida Law requiring medical care in the rare instances when a baby is born alive during an abortion procedure.
What’s next?
The Florida Supreme court is deliberating whether this amendment meets the requirements for ballot placement – their opinion must be released by April 1, 2024. If the Court strikes this deceptive amendment from the ballot, Planned Parenthood and other abortion extremists told the Orlando Sentinel that they will immediately draft, file and begin collecting signatures to place another abortion amendment on the ballot in 2026.
What can we do?
If this deceptive, extreme abortion amendment is on the ballot, we should not skip over it, we should vote no. It’s a moral issue. Remember that slavery was once “legal” (and immoral).
